The resulting artifact constitutes a rough draft or what Vasari recorded as "concetti purgati"; images purged of their particulars and secondary details. These rough concepts are themselves subject to more complete articulation in the modello (also known as etudes or "studies") issuing finally in a work that holds both the perfect ideal and the actual in a state of equilibrium. Following the Italian model of Disegno, these concetti of the Via Dolorosa seek to express their spiritual form in and through the form of the human body.
